Directrice du laboratoire - Angela Alberga, Ph.D
Née et ayant grandi à Montréal, la Dre Alberga a complété son baccalauréat ès sciences (majeure en sciences de l’exercice, mineure en psychologie) à l’Université Concordia. Elle a ensuite obtenu sa maîtrise et son doctorat à l’École des sciences de l’activité physique de l’Université d’Ottawa, où elle s’est spécialisée en physiologie de l’exercice. Ses recherches de maîtrise et de doctorat portaient sur l’amélioration de la santé cardiométabolique d’enfants et d’adolescents vivant avec l’obésité grâce à l’exercice. C’est à travers ces expériences qu’elle a pris conscience de la prévalence et de la nocivité de la stigmatisation liée au poids et qu’elle s’est depuis consacrée à la recherche, à l’enseignement et au transfert de connaissances visant à réduire les préjugés, la stigmatisation et la discrimination liés au poids dans la société.
La Dre Alberga a poursuivi deux stages postdoctoraux sous la supervision conjointe de trois facultés (en éducation, en médecine et en psychologie) à l’Université de Calgary, portant sur les aspects psychosociaux des problématiques liées au poids et leurs implications pour la santé publique. Sa formation en recherche sur les aspects physiques, mentaux et sociaux de ces problématiques a nourri sa passion de diriger un programme de recherche interdisciplinaire en santé à l’Université Concordia, à Montréal, au Québec. Elle est actuellement professeure agrégée et titulaire d’une chaire de recherche universitaire de niveau 2 au Département de santé, kinésiologie et physiologie appliquée de l’Université Concordia.
En parallèle de sa formation universitaire en promotion de la santé et en prévention des maladies, elle possède plus de 15 ans d’expérience auprès d’enfants, d’adolescents et d’adultes en tant que monitrice de camp, éducatrice, mentore, entraîneuse, formatrice, instructrice, entraîneuse personnelle et physiologiste de l’exercice clinique, dans divers milieux universitaires et communautaires à travers le Canada..
